RICHARD MADDEN

MARCH 2019

It was bad, then good news in fandom land today ...

Firstly the bad news, Richard Madden wasn’t nominated for the TV BAFTA Leading Actor category for his role in Bodyguard ... and it transpires this isn’t because his interpretation of the role of DC Budd wasn’t good enough.  The admitted reason was due to there being only four nominations in each category and the jury decided that diversity was more important than talent – the nominees being Benedict Cumberbatch, Hugh Grant, Chance Perdomo and Lucian Msamati.  It’s a travesty.

Keeley Hawes was nominated twice, for Bodyguard in the Leading Actress and for Mrs Wilson in the Best Supporting Actress categories.  Bodyguard also received a Best Drama Series nomination.

So why is the red-headed, blue-eyed, Scotsman the one who doesn’t get a nomination?  It’s disgusting.  Poor Richard.

However, at lunch-time, news came through that Richard will be one of the actors starring in a new film called ‘1917’ to be filmed in England and Scotland; production starts next Monday. J  Be still my beating heart!!!

I must do some screen-shots for posterity! By which I mean for my ever-growing collection of A5 photo albums dedicated to the Scottish actor!!!

My Cheltenham Festival blog this year is going to be very factual, as I wasn’t functioning at 100% due to being emotionally distracted at the present time … which, ties in nicely to:

Friday was Comic Relief Red Nose Day and here is the link to the Bodyguard spoof:

This is a youtube link to the short film, Group B (2015); it is 25 minutes long and, of course, features Richard Madden.  He plays a rally driver, Shane Hunter, who is making a comeback following a fatal accident:

It’s unlikely that anyone is better looking than Richard ... here is one of my favourite photos, taken in New York last month:

As well as having a ‘Mallen streak’ or in this instance a ‘Madden streak’ (known as poliosis), Richard’s combination of natural hair and eye colour is very unusual – auburn with (beautiful) blue eyes.  Redheads usually have brown, hazel or green eyes!
