NOVEMBER 2018

What’s new this month?

03 November 2018 – Visit to Noel Williams’ yard (20 October 2018)

Friday 30 November 2018

Here are Friday’s results for my runners of interest:

Newbury:

Brigade Of Guards (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 7th in the NH Maiden Hurdle (20 ran).

Drunken Pirate (Noel Williams/Tom Garner) finished 11th ... coming home in his own time, and Mr Pumblechook (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 2nd in the Novices’ Hurdle (12 ran).

Talkischeap (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 2nd in the Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (4 ran); La Bague Au Roi won the race.

Monbeg Theatre (Jamie Snowden/Page Fuller) finished 4th in the Long Distance Hurdle (Grade 2) (7 ran).

Karezak (Alan King/Adrian Heskin) finished 8th in the Handicap Hurdle [3 miles & 52 yards] (12 ran).

Doncaster:

12:00 Budding Robin (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) finished 7th in the Novices’ Hurdle (10 ran).

13:10 Bentons Lad (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) finished 6th in the Handicap Hurdle [3 miles & 84 yards] (11 ran).

14:15 Cut And Run (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) was a non-runner in the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

The remainder of the Doncaster card was abandoned because the course was deemed unfit for racing.  A horse had slipped up on the bend during the course of the fifth race, after which a delegation of jockeys and officials inspected the track before a decision was made.  This means that Scooby and Big Nasty couldn’t run, even if connections had wanted them to.  Racing is due to take place at Doncaster tomorrow too.

Southwell (AW):

13:00 Three Weeks (David O’Meara/Joe Fanning/Apple Tree Stud) finished 2nd in the Conditions Stakes [1 mile 4 furlongs & 14 yards] (6 ran); he was the 20-1outsider today and was only beaten a length!

Thursday 29 November 2018

Bingo D’Olivate (James Ewart/Brian Hughes) won the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 3 furlongs & 110 yards] (12 ran); it was his first run for his new stable, having transferred from Gemma Anderson’s yard.

Doncaster:

12:00 Budding Robin (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) – Novices’ Hurdle

13:10 Bentons Lad (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) – Handicap Hurdle [3 miles & 84 yards]

Reading this, I believe I will be a loser when RUK takes on its new commitments, as I enjoy the ‘complete’ package, not just the races themselves.  And, I have absolutely no interest in Irish racing, which is just going to ‘clog up’ the schedule.

https://www.racingpost.com/sport/sport-columnists/new-line-up-taking-shape-as-racing-prepares-for-its-big-channel-hop/355467

Fingers crossed, RUK’s lovely Tom Stanley will survive any changes … as he’s my favourite presenter thereon. J

Buveur D’Air, Samcro, and Summerville Boy are due to clash in Saturday’s Fighting Fifth Hurdle, but it’s a shame that only 14 runners have been declared for Newbury’s feature chase; the smallest field in over 10 years.

https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/buveur-d-air-samcro-and-summerville-boy-set-for-fighting-fifth-clash/355617

The line up for Saturday’s feature race at Newbury are Kemboy, Black Corton, Elegant Escape, American, Dingo Dollar, Thomas Patrick, Sizing Tennessee, Beware The Bear, Go Conquer, Ms Parfois, Allysson Monterg, Flying Angel, West Approach and The Young Master.  The race seems to have lost some of its gloss since Hennessy stopped its sponsorship thereof; this being just the second running sponsored by Ladbrokes.

Postscript … Kemboy is now a non-runner, as gales have made it impossible to travel over from Ireland!

http://www.attheraces.com/news/2018/November/29/weather-scuppers-ladbrokes-trophy-bid-for-kemboy

So that’s a home win then!!! J

Thanks to an item within a facebook group, asking what happened to Al Ferof and Walkon when they retired, I’ve discovered that the latter, who is one of my favourite ex-racehorses, lives near Newmarket, under the care of George and Samantha Haine.

I’ve finished both of my Christmas knitting projects ... in fact I’ve finished four knitting projects within the past few weeks, because I couldn’t make up my mind which colour of Caron Cake yarn would prove the most suitable to give as a Christmas present to each individual!  So I’m giving away two, and keeping two!  But my task isn’t complete, as I now wish to crochet a snood as a third Christmas present, using Katia Paint yarn.

Wednesday 28 November 2018

Wetherby:

Shantewe (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) won the Mares’ Standard Open MH Flat Race (16 ran); Jamie’s 17th winner of the season.  She was a 16-1 shot and very impressive!

14:05 My Charity (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) – Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase

15:10 Follow The Swallow (Graeme McPherson/Miss Lilly Pinchin) – Handicap Chase [2 miles 5 furlongs & 150 yards]

Ayr:

14:25 Kalahari Queen (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) – Novices’ Chase

Hopefully my dental problem is now sorted ... I had two fillings replaced today.  Yesterday, the dentist couldn’t detect much wrong with the original fillings, apart from a little wear and tear and my report of an occasional dull pain shooting down into my lower jaw.  X-rays didn’t show any problem either; maybe he thought I was a bit of a masochist for actually volunteering to go ‘under the drill’ without much evidence. However, having drilled out the old fillings, decay was discovered beneath both of them!  I’m now wondering if the same issue will be discovered under further fillings at a future date; especially if x-rays are failing to detect a problem.  Luckily today’s treatment wasn’t painful ... although the resulting bill was!!!  Ouch!

Delusionofgrandeur.jpg

RIP Delusionofgrandeur

Saturday’s card at Haydock Park claimed a victim today, when the Sue Smith-trained Delusionofgrandeur collapsed and died at home; he was an 8-year-old.  Very sad.  RIP

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest:

Lingfield Park:

Colonel Miller (Tom Cannon/Alan King) finished 3rd in the Standard Open NH Flat Race (6 ran).

Somewhere To Be (Martin Keighley/Aidan Coleman) was pulled up during the Intermediate Handicap Chase [2 miles 7 furlongs & 110 yards] (8 ran).

Sedgefield:

Midnight Chill (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) won the Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (6 ran); Jamie’s 16th winner of the season.  Waiting Patiently won this race in 2016!

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest ... Pride Of Pemberley hasn’t been declared for Wetherby:

Hereford:

14:05 Timcoda (Jamie Snowden/Sam Twiston-Davies) & Yesandno (Alan King/Tom Cannon) – Maiden Hurdle

14:35 Sula Island (Alan King/Tom Cannon) – Mares’ Handicap Hurdle

15:05 Dontminddboys (Robin Dickin/Richard Johnson/EPDS Racing) – Handicap Chase [3 miles 1 furlong & 44 yards]

15:40 Debden Bank (Martin Keighley/Sam Twiston-Davies) – Standard Open NH Flat Race

Wetherby:

15:25 Shantewe (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) – Mares’ Standard Open MH Flat Race

Wolverhampton (AW):

Five RoR horses will parade at Newbury on Saturday ahead of the Peter O’Sullevan Memorial Handicap Chase – Sire De Grugy, Carruthers, Zarkandar, Annacotty and Melodic Rendezvous.

The Alan King-trained Karezak is due to have his first run over hurdles since 2015 at Newbury on Friday!

Galactic Power will have entries at Market Rasen on 6/12, Exeter on 7/12 and Huntingdon on 9/12.  Pride Of Pemberley will also be given an entry at Exeter on 7/12 and, possibly, one at Sandown on 8/12!  Ami Desbois may return to action, on Saturday, at Newbury or Newcastle.

Monday 26 November 2018

Here are today’s results for my runners of interest:

Kempton Park:

Baddesley Prince (Chris Gordon/Wayne Hutchinson) was a non-runner and Danny Kirwan (Paul Nicholls/Harry Cobden) finished 2nd, beaten three quarters of a length, in the NH Novices’ Hurdle (2 ran); he was the odds-on favourite, but Paul admitted he’d had a slight setback a few weeks ago and wasn’t completely ‘wound-up’ for today’s run.

Mias Storm (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) won the Mares’ Hurdle (Listed) (4 ran); Alan’s 50th winner of the season and Wayne’s 45th winner of the season.

Nylon Speed (Alan King/Fergus Gregory) finished 6th and Mick Maestro (Alan King/Harry Teal) finished 4th in the Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (7 ran).

Ludlow:

Mystical Clouds (Alan King/Tom Cannon) finished 2nd in the NH Novices’ Hurdle (5 ran).

Red Admirable (Graeme McPherson/Tom Humphries) finished 6th in the Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (8 ran).

Sadly the Evan Williams-trained veteran Tornado In Milan lost his life as a result of a fall at the Shropshire track. RIP L

Having ridden his 45th winner of the season today, Wayne Hutchinson has equalled last season’s total ... and it’s still only late November!

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest:

Lingfield Park:

12:30 Colonel Miller (Tom Cannon/Alan King) – Standard Open NH Flat Race

14:30 Somewhere To Be (Martin Keighley/Aidan Coleman) – Intermediate Handicap Chase [2 miles 7 furlongs & 110 yards]

Sedgefield:

14:50 Midnight Chill (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) – Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase

That leaves Pride Of Pemberley with an entry at Wetherby on Wednesday ... which is far too far to travel to L

Evidently Haydock’s fences at the weekend were smaller and softer than originally planned ...

https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/bha-reveals-haydock-fences-were-already-lowered-and-softened-in-betfair-build-up/355314

Saturday’s fence issue has spawned a discussion about the design of fences at a number of UK racecourses ...

https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/riders-praise-major-irish-tracks-and-claim-britain-s-fences-are-too-upright/355333

It’s unbelievable what some people will steal ...

https://www.racingpost.com/news/latest/ex-racehorse-owner-speaks-out-after-robbery-left-her-horse-fighting-for-his-life/355269

I’ve not been as productive on the knitting front as hoped today, but I did walk to the local garden centre and dropped into Dunelms too.  I think I’m back in love with walking again, provided it’s daylight!  Fingers crossed, my pelvis issue is a thing of the past.

Sunday 25 November 2018

Here are the results for yesterday’s runners of interest ... and I’ve added a couple for Haydock Park which I failed to notice when jotting them down on Friday; also, my ATR tracker failed to notify me about them until almost midnight on Friday!

The Haydock Park fences were particularly stiff, resulting in a plethora of jumping-related incidents.

Haydock Park:

Full Glass (Alan King/Daryl Jacob) blundered and unseated four out during the Graduation Chase (6 ran).

Cyrus Darius (Colin Tizzard/Brian Hughes) finished 7th and Cliffs Of Dover (Paul Nicholls/Harry Cobden) finished 8th in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 2 furlongs & 191 yards) (11 ran).

Native River (Colin Tizzard/Richard Johnson) finished 2nd in the Betfair Chase (Grade 1) (5 ran); Bristol De Mai won the race for the second year running, at his beloved track, and despite the seemingly unfavourable going conditions!  Thistlecrack finished 3rd, Clan Des Obeaux 4th and Might Bite a disappointing 5th.

Might Bite is reported to be absolutely fine today:

http://www.attheraces.com/news/2018/November/25/might-bite-remains-on-course-for-king-george-defence-despite-haydock-eclipse

And Bristol De Mai enjoyed time out in the field today:

https://twitter.com/i/status/1066612241603198977

Ascot:

Senior Citizen (Alan King/Adrian Heskin) finished 3rd in the Novices’ Hurdle (7 ran).

Sensulano (Noel Williams/Wayne Hutchinson) won the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (11 ran); Noel’s 4th winner of the season and Wayne’s 43rd winner of the season.

Theinval (Nicky Henderson/Jeremiah McGrath) finished 9th and Valdez (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) was pulled up before the last during the Handicap Chase [2 miles & 167 yards] (13 ran).

The Grade 2 Ascot Chase was won by Politologue, and the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle by If The Cap Fits.

It’s great to see Noel doing well, at the bigger tracks, this season – with winners at Aintree, Newbury and now Ascot.

And today’s results (Sunday) for my runners of interest …

Exeter:

Morehurrylesshaste (Christian Williams/Wayne Hutchinson) was pulled before three out during the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 5 furlongs & 135 yards] (17 ran).

Lil Rockerfeller (Neil King/Wayne Hutchinson) won the Novices’ Chase (6 ran); Wayne’s 44th winner of the season.

Our Power (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 2nd in the Juvenile Hurdle (11 ran).

Uttoxeter:

Pershing Missile (Graeme McPherson/Aidan Coleman) finished 10th in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 3 furlongs & 207 yards] (12 ran).

Chequered View (Martin Keighley/Sam Twiston-Davies) finished 3rd in the Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (9 ran).

58 Watcombe Heights.jpg

RIP Watcombe Heights

Sadly the Colin Tizzard-trained Watcombe Heights collapsed and died from a suspected heart attack following a Handicap Chase at Exeter today; he’d won the race. L RIP

Gordon Elliott didn’t train the winner of the Troytown Chase at Navan, despite fielding 11 of the 25 runners, although the bad news is that a Gigginstown-owned horse still won it:

http://www.attheraces.com/news/2018/November/25/tout-est-permis-silences-elliott-battalion-in-troytown

Ned Stark returned to action today, also at Navan.  He finished 10th of 14 in a Handicap Hurdle.

The 2018 Exeter Clydesdale race … poor Midge:

https://www.racinguk.com/videos/watch/ondemand/23524

Alan King was a guest on RUK’s Luck On Sunday today:

https://www.racinguk.com/videos/watch/ondemand/23512

My research tells me that Rock Force is the Apple Tree Stud gelding in training with Alan.  And, of course, I’ll have to keep a lookout for the Apple Tree Stud fillies Alan mentioned he’d be training on the flat next year, including a Galileo sired one!

Jamie Moore encountered a spot of bother when he was unseated by Casse Tete at Ascot on Friday:

https://mobile.twitter.com/AtTheRaces/status/1066000917412089864/photo/1

And here are tomorrow’s runners of interest; field sizes at Kempton are small:

Kempton Park:

12:55 Baddesley Prince (Chris Gordon/Wayne Hutchinson) & Danny Kirwan (Paul Nicholls/Harry Cobden) – NH Novices’ Hurdle ... there are only three runners!

14:05 Mia’s Storm (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) – Mares’ Hurdle (Listed)

15:40 Nylon Speed (Alan King/Fergus Gregory) & Mick Maestro (Alan King/Harry Teal) – Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

Ludlow:

14:15 Mystical Clouds (Alan King/Tom Cannon) – NH Novices’ Hurdle

15:50 Red Admirable (Graeme McPherson/Tom Humphries) – Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

I finally got around to washing my car, and I’ve also done some knitting this weekend.  However, I’ve not completed quite as much knitting as I’d hoped because I’ve been having a DVD Richard Madden’athon!  I started with the mainly live action Disney-produced Cinderella also starring Lily James, in which he plays the Prince, followed by the 8-part Klondike in which he plays the main character.  There was a lot of rain, snow, violence, blood and gore in the latter, but a lot of nice scenery too ... including Richard!!!

Friday 23 November 2018

Here are today’s results for my runners of interest:

And the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle at 14:40 with Old Guard, We Have A Dream, Babbling Stream, If The Cap Fits, Rayvin Black and Tomngerry due to take part.

15:40 Chequered View (Martin Keighley/Sam Twiston-Davies) – Mares’ Handicap Hurdle

I’ve no particular plans for the weekend, apart from continuing my Christmas knitting projects ... and watching horse racing on TV, plus Strictly Come Dancing.  I hope to catch up on some sleep too. I was worn out yesterday evening; I dozed off whilst watching the Panorama programme about the Salisbury Nerve Agent Attack ... then again whilst watching George Clarke’s Old House New Home on +1.  And finally, I went to sleep for a third time when viewing an old episode of Vera on ITV3, only to wake up again at 01:00 in the morning; mind you, I had seen that particular one before!

Thursday 22 November 2018

Here are today’s results for my runners of interest at Market Rasen:

Kayf Blanco (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) finished 3rd in the Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (8 ran).

RIP Monet’s Garden

There was sad news today, the very popular grey Monet’s Garden has passed away aged 20.

Warwick:

My Dixie (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 4th in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (10 ran).

Cogburn (Alan King/Harry Teal) finished 2nd in the Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (5 ran).

Lerichi Belle (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 10th in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 3 furlongs & 100 yards] (17 ran).

It’s a quiet day tomorrow, with no runners of interest at Wincanton and just two at Market Rasen:

14:00 Kayf Blanco (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) – Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase

15:05 Filemon (Jamie Snowden/Page Fuller) – Lady Riders’ Handicap Hurdle

Pride of Pemberley will be given two possible entries next week – one at Lingfield on Tuesday and the other at Wetherby on Wednesday.  Obviously I cannot get to Wetherby ... but I can get to Lingfield, possibly by train except, I have two long-standing appointments booked for that day including a visit to the dentist.  I’d love to put the latter off but, I’ve actually got a problem with one of my teeth; I think the filling is worn out and needs to be replaced.  Poodles!

Finnick Glory (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 4th and Mello Yello (Martin Keighley/Tom Bellamy) finished 10th in the Mares’ Intermediate Open NH Flat Race (12 ran).  Sadly a mare named To The Core collapsed and died during this race. RIP

Udogo was lost at Fontwell on Sunday, when he took a fatal fall.  RIP

Alan King is having a far better National Hunt season this one than last ... he trained just 58 winners during 2017/2018 and has already reached 49 this season!!!  Mind you, last winter was wet and the majority of his horses aren’t suited to heavy ground!

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest:

12:30 Harambe (Alan King/Tom Bellamy) – NH Novices’ Hurdle

13:30 My Dixie (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) – Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

Also, the Noel Williams-trained Authorized Too finished 4th of 8 on the all-weather at Kempton Park this evening; his run was better than the finishing position would suggest, as he didn’t get a clear run and lost all chance when hampered over two furlongs out.

Sunday 18 November 2018

Here are yesterday’s results for my runners of interest at Cheltenham:

Cracker Factory (Alan King/Daryl Jacob) finished 2nd in the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle (Grade 2) (6 ran).

Coneygree (Mark Bradstock/Sean Bowen) finished 3rd in the Handicap Chase (Grade 3) [3 miles 3 furlongs & 71 yards] (15 ran).  His trainer reported that he’s fine this morning - just a little stiff which is only to be expected.

Buckle Street (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) refused to race in Handicap Hurdle (Listed) [2 miles 7 furlongs & 208 yards]

Poperinghe Ginger (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) finished 7th and The Glancing Queen (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) won the Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat Race (Listed) (14 ran); Alan’s 44th winner of the season and Wayne’s 39th winner of the season.  The trainer was rather shocked that his charge had managed to win!!!

The feature chase was won by Baron Alco ... who was my non-bet upon fancy ... at a price of 8-1!  Eighteen runners set off, but only 6 finished!  The other finishers, in order, were Frodon, Guitar Pete, the favourite Mister Whitaker, Eamon An Cnoic and Javert.

Of the twelve which departed, two went at the first – Whoshotwho fell and Romain De Senam blundered and unseated.  West Approach was pulled up after the 9th fence, having become detached.  Kalondra made an error and stumbled at the 12th, unseating Noel Fehily as a result.  There was carnage four out (the final open-ditch), where Willie Boy fell and brought down both Rather Be and Happy Diva; he also hampered Ballyandy very badly, who was subsequently pulled up before two out with all chance gone.  Last year’s victor, Splash of Ginge, was also pulled up before two out.  King’s Socks blundered and unseated three out; the last two to depart were Movewiththetimes who fell at the last, badly hampering Shantou Village who unshipped Robert Dunne!!!

But the good news is that none of the horses sustained a serious injury, although Tom Scudamore (King’s Socks) was injured and Harry Cobden (Romain De Senam) stood himself down later in the afternoon.

And today’s results too:

Cheltenham:

Mr Mafia (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 18th in the Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (23 ran).

Sceau Royal (Alan King/Daryl Jacob) won the Shloer Chase (Grade 2) (6 ran); he was impressive.  Alan’s 45th winner of the season.

Deyrann De Carjac (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) fell two out (that’s the revised two out) during the Greatwood Handicap Hurdle (Grade 3) [2 miles & 87 yards] (18 ran); the first, second and final hurdles were omitted due to low sun.  The race was won by the Brian Ellison-trained outsider Nietzsche, ridden by 7lb claimer Danny McMenamin; Silver Streak finished a close 2nd, from Old Guard and Verdana Blue.

Lalor, who was making his chasing debut today, won the Grade 2 Novices’ Chase very impressively.

Fontwell Park:

Lisp (Alan King/Tom Cannon) won the Handicap Chase [2 miles 1 furlong & 162 yards] (6 ran); Alan’s 46th winner of the season.

Tour De Paris (Alan King/Brendan Powell) finished 4th in the Juvenile Hurdle (10 ran).

Filemon (Jamie Snowden/James Davies) was a non-runner in the Handicap Chase [2 miles 5 furlongs & 135 yards] having knocked a joint.

And tomorrow’s runners of interest:

RIP Jameson

Sadly the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Jameson lost his life as a result of a fall at Cheltenham today; he was only 6.  RIP L

I was out and about this morning, spending shopping vouchers whilst they were still valid.  I also paid my first ever visit to The Range ... I was very disappointed, as there was far too much Christmas-themed merchandise.  I was hoping to find a wide selection of knitting yarns, but all they had were a few Patons yarns.  The Range is just a down-market Dunelms ... but I like Dunelms!

Today was my ‘Friday’ ... yippee!  I deserve a day off, I’ve only had three half days, one single day, and one day and a half off since my trip to Aintree in April ... but there will be more days off before Christmas. J

It was the final episode of Celebrity Hunted last night and two of the eight celebrities managed to escape the clutches of the hunters – namely Tory MP Johnny Mercer and Strictly Come Dancing’s AJ Pritchard!  I only discovered the programme last year, when Jay McGuiness took part and was successful too – I love it!!!  I also watched the non-celebrity version of the show earlier this year, and hope to watch the 2019 version too.

Talking of Jay McGuiness, he’s joining Aston Merrygold, Louis Smith and Harry Judd when Rip It Up the 60s transfers into the Garrick Theatre in London from 07 February next year.  The show’s run is intended to last until 02 June!!!

I quite fancy going to see Ian Waite and Vincent Simone when they tour next year too – their show is called The Ballroom Boys.

Monday 12 November 2018

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ... I nearly got knocked over this morning by a cyclist speeding along the pavement; he missed me by a matter of inches as I stepped towards the kerb to cross the road.  I have no idea where he came from; I didn’t see or hear him until a split second before the near miss.  Why are there so many imbeciles who ride bicycles?

There’s good news regarding Double Shuffle, who fell during the Charlie Hall Chase on Saturday.  He was slightly lame when caught, but deteriorated quickly and was subsequently taken to the equine hospital in Malton.  However, following x-rays, he began to improve rapidly – the diagnosis was that he’d hit the nerves in his shoulder and had been suffering from a dead leg!  He’s home now and trotted out sound this morning, with some physio treatment planned for tomorrow. Sunday 04 November 2018

Here are yesterday’s results for my runners of interest:

Ascot:

Rock Steady (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) unseated 2 out in the Novices’ Hurdle (7 ran).

Chequered View (Martin Keighley/Leighton Aspell) finished 8th in the Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (14 ran).

Ink Master (Donald McCain Jr/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 4th in the Handicap Chase (Listed) [2 miles & 167 yards] (5 ran); the race was sadly marred by the injury sustained by Shantou Rock – he fractured a hock when slithering upon landing over the first fence and had to be put to sleep.  RIP

Fidux (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) won the Handicap Hurdle (Listed) [1 mile 7 furlongs & 152 yards] (9 ran); Alan’s 36th winner of the season and Wayne’s 36th winner of the season too.  The trainer wasn’t expecting his charge to win and especially not by 8 lengths ... thus he hadn’t got a forward plan in place, having failed to enter Fidux in the Greatwood Hurdle!

Ben Buie (Martin Keighley/Richard Johnson) finished 2nd and Miss Antipova (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 9th in the Standard Open NH Flat Race (10 ran).

Wetherby:

Shady Glen (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) finished last in the Handicap Chase [3 miles & 45 yards] (5 ran).

Thistle Do Nicely (Jamie Snowden/Tom O’Brien/part-owned by Apple Tree Stud) won the Novices’ Hurdle (4 ran; Jamie’s 14th winner of the season

Monbeg Theatre (Jamie Snowden/Tom O’Brien) finished 3rd in the Hurdle (Grade 2 – Listed) [3 miles & 26 yards] (5 ran).

Harefield (Alan King/Tom Bellamy) was a non-runner in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 3 furlongs & 154 yards]

Four runners went to the post in the Charlie Hall Chase and it was won by the 3-1 shot Definitly Red.   Double Shuffle had started as the second favourite but blundered and fell at the first fence.  Then, at the third fence, Bryony Frost made a miraculous recovery aboard the favourite Black Corton and, having remained intact, the partnership finished as runner-up.  Virgilio completed the race in 3rd position.

And today’s results at Huntingdon too:

Primogeniture (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 5th in the Claiming Hurdle (9 ran).

Balli Martine (Noel Williams/Wayne Hutchinson) finished 3rd in the Novices’ Hurdle (6 ran).

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest:

Hereford:

16:15 Risk And Co (Jamie Snowden/Adrian Heskin) – NH Auction Maiden Hurdle

Plumpton:

14:30 Between The Waters (Jamie Snowden/Gavin Sheehan) – Novices’ Handicap Chase

This weekend I completed the snood I’ve been crocheting for the past 10 days, I’ve removed the annual begonias from the wall surrounding the patio, and also undertook a task for mum which I was unable to carry out last weekend because I was ill.  And I’ve proof-read and uploaded the outstanding diary too.  I’ve been dithering this afternoon ... it always happens ahead of a new creative project!  I have three Christmas presents to make – two knitted and one crocheted, but I’ll be okay once I get going ...

Friday 02 November 2018

Here are today’s results for my runners of interest:

Uttoxeter:

Cut And Run (Marting Keighley/Leighton Aspell) finished 5th and Kimberley Point (Alan King/Tom Cannon) won the  Mares’ Maiden Hurdle (10 ran); Alan’s 34th winner of the season

Mystical Clouds (Alan King/Tom Cannon) fell two out when leading during the Novices’ Hurdle (3 ran); having watched the replay, the horse appeared okay following this mishap.

Mr Mafia (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) finished 3rd in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 7 furlongs & 70 yards] (8 ran).

Wetherby:

Cracker Factory (Alan King/Daryl Jacob) won the Juvenile Hurdle (Listed) (8 ran); Alan’s 35th winner of the season

Dingo Dollar (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) was a non-runner in the Handicap Chase (Listed) [2 miles 3 furlongs & 85 yards]

Dino Velvet (Alan King/Adrian Heskin) was a non-runner in the Handicap Hurdle [2 miles]

Here are tomorrow’s runners of interest:

Ascot:

12:40 Rock Steady (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) – Novices’ Hurdle

13:15 Chequered View (Martin Keighley/Leighton Aspell) – Novices’ Handicap Hurdle

14:25 Ink Master (Donald McCain Jr/Wayne Hutchinson) – Handicap Chase (Listed) [2 miles & 167 yards]

15:00 Fidux (Alan King/Wayne Hutchinson) – Handicap Hurdle (Listed) [1 mile 7 furlongs & 152 yards]

16:05 Ben Buie (Martin Keighley/Richard Johnson) & Miss Antipova (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) – Standard Open NH Flat Race

Wetherby:

12:20 Shady Glen (Graeme McPherson/Kielan Woods) – Handicap Chase [3 miles & 45 yards]

12:55 Thistle Do Nicely (Jamie Snowden/Tom O’Brien/part-owned by Apple Tree Stud) – Novices’ Hurdle

15:15 Monbeg Theatre (Jamie Snowden/Tom O’Brien) – Hurdle (Grade 2 – Listed) [3 miles & 26 yards]

15:50 Harefield (Alan King/Tom Bellamy) – Handicap Hurdle [2 miles 3 furlongs & 154 yards]

The Charlie Hall Chase, which is due to be run at 14:40, has suffered from the fact that the ground isn’t soft enough yet for many of the top class chasers.  Just 5 have been declared for the race – Definitly Red, Regal Encore, Virgilio, Black Corton and Double Shuffle ... with one of those, Regal Encore, being doubtful!

And at Huntingdon on Sunday:

13:10 Primogeniture (Martin Keighley/Harry Stock) – Claiming Hurdle

14:20 Balli Martine (Noel Williams/Wayne Hutchinson) – Novices’ Hurdle

I’ve nothing special planned for this weekend ... which should provide an opportunity for me to proof-read my Noel Williams stable visit diary, complete another crochet snood and clear away the annual begonias which were finished off by this week’s frosts.  The begonias weren’t as vigorous this year, presumably due to the very dry summer, and despite the fact I watered them on a regular basis.
